A Newlywed Encounter
Crossed a linoleum floor
to a paisley spread,
newly weds -
side by side in
separate beds - two
children share a
heated room - one sucked her
thumb - one wet her bed.
His Uncles boots untied,
perched on a stool near
a metal sign - selling
old stuff, "Antiques," he
said.
Cribs, pillows and old
blankets hang for privacy
in a living space crammed
in one room -
I asked, "This is part
of our honeymoon?"
"Stay put – got lot’s of
space right here, near
the beach, besides
I’ve slept many a night
wet sand on my feet.
Miles you traveled…
nothing to eat… stay,
rest for awhile, lift your
feet."
Eighteen wheelers cruise
at night, two feet near
two marriage beds.
In morning light, near
sand and shore we left
paisley for a single bed
as newly weds.
